When deciding to purchase human hair wig or partial human hair system, it is important to understand what it will take to keep your hair lasting long and looking healthy.
Just like your own hair, the hair on the system will need to be treated (taken care of) the same as your natural hair would.
In fact, to a certain degree more care is needed when dealing with alternative hair wigs or systems.
You have to keep in mind that your new hairdo will not get nutrition from your scalp, therefore, it needs to receive the oils to keep it soft ad smooth and keeping it from drying out. A dry hair will look dull and brittle and will easily break.
All human hair wigs and hair systems require the same three things as your natural hair would and that is the following:
Here are a few of the PLANT based Oils that are great for Human hair wigs and systems as well as your own hair.
Although all of the oils listed above are absorbed by the hair, the coconut oil is the best for penetrating the hair cuticle.

Depending on the type of base you decide to go with, a hair system should last anywhere from 4 to 6 months or even longer before you need to replace it.
The base types, materials, your lifestyle, attachment and cleaning routine and the overall maintenance of the hair system will influence the lifespan of your hair system.
If you take time to implement a good hairpiece care routine you’ll be able to prolong its lifespan significantly.
In general hair systems will shed during normal maintenance routines such as brushing or washing.
Normally, hair replacement systems will shed at the start during the first few days a bit more as there may be lose strands that may not have been brushed out completely.
The shedding could be easily caused by wrong maintenance routine or just small habits that we may not even think about when we first start wearing hair replacement systems.
It is always a good practice to apply knot sealer to the hair system to seal the knots and keep them tied firmly. Of course, the knot sealing should be done after every wash.
Here are a few tips to watch for when wearing a hair system:
When scratching your head:- Do not scratch as you would your scalp, but rather pat your head. Scratching will loosen the knots and cause the system to shed easily
When combing a hair system- Use a wide-toothed comb or a cushion brush. Comb your hair piece gently. Start from the hair ends and work upwards to the base of the cap. Make sure to not comb it from top to bottom. Be sure to comb the hair system thoroughly before washing. Do not comb it when the hair is wet and if you do, remember to be very careful and use only wide tooth comb to gently comb through it.
Products you use:
Use products specifically designed for alternative hair. Regular hair products have high alcohol content that would lead to drying the hair and cause breakage and hair shedding.
Cleaning Hair System when using tapes or adhesives:
Ensure that you removed all glue and tapes before washing the hair system to minimize shedding. Please be sure to remove all the glue and tapes before washing the hair piece, to minimize the risk of shedding. When washing, tear away the remaining adhesive, will be the hair along with the removal, resulting in local hair loss.
After cleaning, please let you hair system air dry. Don’t wring or squeeze the wet hair. Best is to gently pat hair system with towel to soak the water the water out. Best is to let it dry naturally rather then blow drying it. The heat from hair dryer can split the knots and cause shedding. If you want a quick dry, you can use a hair dryer, but be sure that it is on a cool setting.
Sleeping with Hair System:- The friction between the hair and the pillow can tie the hair and created hair loss. It is recommended to braid your hair (long hair) when going to bed, you may use a silk cap and replace your pillow case with a silk one to reduce friction and knot.
Activities, such as swimming:- Chlorine and salt in the water will damage to the hair system if not rinsed out well. However, best is to wear a cap to prevent prolonged exposure to the chlorine or salt water. Both of which can cause the hair to tangle.
Regular care and maintenance is the most important factor in making hair systems last longer. You do not need to wash it daily and when you do wash it, it is important to use conditioner as well as leave-in conditioner in order to not allow the hair to dry out. Keep in mind that too much conditioning or not enough can equally affect your hair system. It is also important to not allow the conditioning to get into the base where the hair knotting is as that would allow the hair to release from base and to fall out.
